■ Author’s Note: ‘Understanding Brainwaves, Understanding People’ by Seung-Hwan Lee | Hakjisa Publishing | 172 pages
Digital transformation is taking place across various industries, and the field of psychiatry is no exception, with this wave rapidly gaining momentum. Brainwaves serve as an excellent tool and medium for achieving this digital transition. However, the importance of brainwaves is still being overlooked. There are several reasons for this, but the primary one is that brainwave measurement has a long history. In fact, brain electrical activity was first discovered in animals in 1875, and Hans Berger measured brainwaves in humans for the first time in 1912. Despite its long history, brainwave research continues to be undervalued, perhaps due to the bias that older methods are perceived as outdated or less valuable.
