“Can Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder Be Distinguished Through EEG?”
Schizophrenia (SZ) and Bipolar Disorder (BD) often present with overlapping symptoms, making accurate diagnosis a challenge. Misdiagnoses can lead to ineffective or inappropriate treatments.
In our recent study, we applied advanced EEG (electroencephalogram) analysis techniques combined with machine learning to develop a method for distinguishing between SZ and BD.
💡 Key Findings:
✅Employed novel EEG metrics (MFE & RP) to assess brainwave complexity and power
✅Analyzed EEG data from 114 patients using machine learning algorithms
✅Identified that SZ patients show significantly higher complexity and power in the theta frequency band
✅Achieved a classification accuracy of 78.9% between the two disorders
This approach holds strong potential for improving diagnostic precision and enabling personalized treatment strategies in psychiatry.
